Background

A decade of practice across elite sport and clinical care.

Kosta Ikonomou is a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Sports Medicine and Concussion with over a decade of experience combining clinical expertise with elite sport involvement.

He is the founder of Akeso Sports Medicine & Concussion, a Concussion Expert and Advisor for Luca Health, and is currently commencing a research role at University College London, where his work focuses on evidence-based concussion and vestibular rehabilitation.

Kosta's elite sport career includes serving as Head of Sports Medicine for the Vancouver Bandits (CEBL), physiotherapist for Chelsea FC Academy in London — managing on-field injuries and working within a multidisciplinary team, and conducting pre-season screenings for the GB Olympic diving team. He has also supported U-Sports and Olympic snowboard athletes in concussion and vestibular rehabilitation.

His research has been presented at the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine (BASEM) annual conference and the 6th International Conference on Concussion in Sport in Amsterdam. His work has examined the effects of fatigue on the vestibular oculomotor screen in male university rugby and sedentary participants.

Kosta holds an MSc in Sports Medicine, Exercise and Health from University College London, a FIFA Sports Medicine Diploma, and a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from Brunel University. He holds postgraduate certifications in Vestibular Rehabilitation from Duke University and Dry Needling, and is an HCPC-registered physiotherapist. His passion is working with private patients across London to help them recover, perform, and get back to the things that matter most.
